Olive Rock, a rare gem set amongst rolling hills, graceful mountain peaks and a river!!

Simone & Nick Stanford, owner managers of Olive Rock proudly boast that they are worthy of being chosen as one of the top elegant venues in South Africa, and we at Wedding Collection Magazine cannot agree more.

The charm Olive Rock exudes is something truly extraordinary, a rare gem, framed by rolling green hills, graceful mountain peaks, and a nudging river. Where would you find all of these natural beauties anywhere else in the country?  It also happens to be this couple’s home, (they live an orchard away) and they treat all guests as if they were visiting their own home. Simone says that every person will experience a relaxed and calm space and will feel free to be themselves from the day they start setting up to the day after.  She adds “it’s a humbling environment, and its 360 degrees of natural beauty is truly breath taking.”

Located in the picturesque Witzenberg Valley, just an hour and half outside of Cape Town, Olive Rock provides the perfect setting for an unforgettable wedding.  The building boasts a modern minimalistic design with Scandinavian-like white and wooden furniture which lends itself to almost any theme a bride could desire.  It has multilevel platforms with an easy flow between a garden ceremony, and the river bed for pre-drinks is an absolute must, finishing off with a spectacular reception under Bedouin tents or if the weather permits, under the beautiful South African, starlit sky. Dancing can be enjoyed in the adjacent double volume hall.  After sunset, necklaces of fairy lights come to life in the reception area, the building lights are dimmed and loads of candles are lit, which creates a complete magical, fairy tale experience. Up to 200 guests can comfortably be accommodated and catering is done on site with qualified owner, manager and Chef, Nick Stanford.

Simone says it is their goal to provide a warm, calm and inviting space for couples to pour their dreams into, for their wedding day. She confesses that they as a couple got married at this very venue and now, as owners, have poured so much love and passion into Olive Rock.  Every request and desire is taken care of by management and attention to detail is of paramount importance.  “Every wedding is unique and all are special and memorable, however, we don’t have to “pull off” anything to create the perfect day; this happens naturally because of our love and dedication to your wedding day and also because of the natural beauty of the setting!!” Simone beams.

Everyone knows that guests talk about the food that was served at weddings for weeks after the event, here’s where Olive Rock is a cut above the rest. Well known for his delicious food and warm hospitality, owner Chef Nick, trained under David Higgs and Wynand du Plessis as well as having worked in popular restaurants in the UK.  He has been impressing guests for the past 9 years with his culinary skills.  Few chefs can boast an ability to make 200 medium/rare steaks, and serve them piping hot and incredibly tasty.  Nick’s motto is “keep it simple and make it tasty” for him this is the winning formula.  Nick is used to guests streaming into the kitchen to compliment him on his exquisite food, from the canapes to the desserts.

Olive Rock’s natural beauty lends itself to host really stunning styled weddings. Simone says, some of the weddings they have hosted have taken the venue to another level in glamour, from including beautiful bulbs and lighting, to wooden gazebos for the reception and pre-drinks terrace. The opportunities are endless. The space is so beautiful,  and if you are not into hosting an over the top styled wedding, not much needs to be added to create a really wow wedding.  Think candles, greenery and some flowers for the tables, the rest is in the natural beauty of the setting.  Your guests will be blown away.
